To put that in perspective, the average person will speak with about 378,000 people in their entire lifetime. Phonely now handles the equivalent of more than three lifetimes of conversations every month.

When we celebrated our very first 100 calls, the energy in the room was unforgettable. It felt like proof that our vision was real: that AI could answer the phone reliably, politely, and helpfully.
Our story began in 2023, when our co-founders Will Bodewes and Nisal Ranasinghe were PhD researchers in Professor Saman Halgamuge’s AI group at the University of Melbourne. What started as an after-hours demo for a couple of small businesses quickly became the foundation for something bigger.
What once supported just 100 calls a day now handles customers doing as many as 75,000 calls daily, proving Phonely’s ability to operate at a massive scale.
